Interface Setup

LAN

To use the LAN interface to control the PMX, middleware that supports the VXI-11 or HiSLIP protocol must be installed on the controller. The middleware is installed automatically by the VISA library.

The LAN interface board incorporates an interface to embedded Web site on which you can configure the LAN interface settings. You can open these pages via a web browser on your PC.

For information on your corporate LAN connection, IP address, host name, and security, contact your network administrator.

If you are using a host name (a Bonjour host name), you need to install Apple Bonjour.

LAN connection

Use a standard LAN cable (category 5 and straight) to connect the PMX to a network hub or router.

LAN connector on the PMX is a RJ-45 connector.

LAN setting

Normally, you should set DHCP and AUTO IP to "on" to obtain the IP address automatically.
-> CONFIG parameter (LAN settings) details

1.    Select LAN in the CONFIG settings (CF20: LAn).

2.    In the CONFIG settings, set the DHCP (CF30: on).

3.    In the CONFIG settings, set the AUTO IP (CF31: on).

4.    Restart the PMX.

When you are directly connecting the PMX to the controller, set DHCP (CF30) to "oFF" and AUTO IP (CF31) to "on" for obtaining the IP address automatically. You cannot set the IP address through the front panel. To set a fixed IP address, first obtain the IP address automatically, and then change it to a fixed address on embedded Web site via a web browser.

You can use the following CONFIG settings to check the IP address.

Parameter number Display Description
CF35 0 to 255 Display the 1st number of the IP address
CF36 0 to 255 Display the 2nd number of the IP address
CF37 0 to 255 Display the 3rd number of the IP address
CF38 0 to 255 Display the 4th number of the IP address

Caution

The LAN interface can be accessed from any place on the network. If required, you can configure the security settings such as password protection or host access restriction. To restrict host access, specify the hosts that are allowed to access by registering IP addresses.
-> Setting procedure
Avoid running LAN interface reboot (CF34) or LAN interface reset (CF33) during the auto measurement system is working. Otherwise, an error might occur.

NOTE

To use LAN interface, you need to send "SYSTem:REMote" SCPI command to set the operating mode to"remote". Be sure to include this command at the start of the program when you are performing remote programming.

Service request

The PMX is equipped with service request and serial polling functions.

Restarting the LAN interface

You can use the CONFIG settings to restart the LAN interface. Even if you restart the LAN interface, the LAN settings will not change.

This operation does not affect the PMX's panel settings. If the product is in remote mode, you can switch it to local mode through panel operations.

Resetting the LAN interface

You can use the CONFIG settings to reset the LAN interface. If you reset the LAN interface, its settings are restored to the factory default values. You can use this feature when you have forgotten the security password or the IP address.

This operation does not affect the PMX's panel settings. If the product is in remote mode, you can switch it to local mode through panel operations.
